Potassium Chloride Oral Solution U.S.P

Composition : 

Each 15ml contains
Potassium Chloride I.P ......... 1.5 g
( Corresponding to 20 milliequivalents of elemental potassium )
In a flavoured sugarless base ......... q.s.

Dosage :

Adults : The usual daily dosage is 1 tablespoon full ( 15ml ) diluted 2 to 4 times daily after meals, supplying 3 to 6 g or 40 to 80 milliequivalents.

Children : Dosage should be adjusted according to the age of the child or as directed by the physician.

Indications :

  • Prevention and Treatment of hypokalemia due to diuretic or corticosteroid therapy. 
  • Cardiac arrhythmias because of Digitalis intoxication.
  • Hyper-aldosteronism.

Contraindications:

  • Severe renal impairment with oliguria or azotomia.
  • Untreated addisons disease.
  • Acute dehydration.
  • Hyperkalemia of any etiology.

Cautions :

  • To be taken strictly according to the physicians treatment.
  • Each dose diluted in half glass of water.
  • In case of renal impairment associated with spiranolactone therapy, Monitoring of serum potassium level is necessary.
  • Protect from heat and sunlight.
  • Keep out of the reach of children.
