Crohn’s Disease

Definition :

          Crohn’s disease is an inflammation of the bowel. It belongs to a group of conditions known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease ( IBD ). It is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract.

It most commonly affecting the end of the small bowel (terminal ileum),  jejunum, or begining of the colon and resulting in skip lesions ( Normal bowel followed by diseased bowel ).

Signs and Symptoms :

  • Abdominal pain and cramps
  • Persistent Diarrhea
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Urgency of bowel
  • Sensation of incomplete evacuation
  • Constipation ( Leads to bowel obstruction )
  General Sypmtoms :
  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Night sweats
  • Loss of appetite
  • Loss of normal menstrual cycle   

 Causes of Crohn's Disease :

  • Diet
  • Stress
  • Hereditary
  • Genetics
  • Environmental factors


Dietary Management :

          The diet of  choice is for Crohn’s disease is low residue diet.
  • Meat ( Baked Chicken)
  • Cooked Vegetables ( Mashed Potatoes )
          The diet should avoided for the Crohn’s disease is  
  • Raw fruits ( Except banana )
  • Vegetables
  • Seeds
  • Whole grains
